A little about each of us:
In the beginning it was just Bo a loving ShiTuz who loves attention, and especially enjoys his toys and chasing things.
Then Dad and I rescued Charlie a beautiful Shepherd mix who was in a bad situation. She is the tallest in our group.
A while later we found out that Bo’s Mom(Izzy 8) and Dad(Toby 10)was dropped at the dog pound, without hesitation we went picked them up and and brought them home. They love to go for rides on the golf-cart,and nightly 8pm milk bone and cuddling
Then lastly we decided to add one more to our family (Bear 6mo) he is a very energetic happy and loves to play.
Our Dad is the owner of Hometown Home Healthcare and we would go with him to work we made lots of friends young and old.We found that we love all the attention and the people have a positive reaction to us also.
We want to make new friends and make them smile!!!
History of Animal Therapy
1792 – The first documented use of Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) was “York Retreat in England in 1792 by a Quaker group where farm animals were used to teach the psychiatric patients self-control through positive reinforcement with the weaker and needy animals”.[1]
1867 – Farm animals and horses were used in treatment of epilepsy patients at Bethel in Bielefeld, West Germany.
1933 – Sigmund Freud believed that dogs had a “special sense” that allowed them to judge a person’s character accurately. His favorite chow chow, Jo-Fi, attended all of his therapy sessions.
1944 – The first documented use of AAT in the United States occurred, when the Army Air Force Convalescent Hospital near New York City treated soldiers with battle injuries or psychological trauma with trained therapy dogs.
1973 – A visiting therapy dog named Skeezer became a permanent resident at Children’s Psychiatric Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
1977 – A research team from the University of Pennsylvania, headed by psychiatrist Dr. Dean Katcher, looked at the influence of pets on patients’ blood pressure. They found that study participants who interacted with pets, compared to those interacting with people including family members, had lower blood pressures.
